Anyone who ever had their light stand tip over and cause hundreds of dollars of damage to your light, will understand the need for sandbags. So I went into my local photo shop and was flabbergasted at the over priced sand bags.
If you need sandbags, and YOU DO! These bags are a great price, well made and arrive on time and in great shape.
These are a no brainer.

These bags seem very sturdy and solidly built, with double zippers and liners. I filled mine with pea gravel. For the price, they can't be beat.

I bought these to hold down or sturdy various stands for on-location shoots and for holding down the edges of my backdrop stretched from the stand when doing studio work.

There isn't a lot that can be said about sandbags, but these are nice heavy duty material. Necessary under most all conditions when using light stands/booms outdoors. You never know when a breeze will kick up and you are 15 feet from your lighting equipment. For this price, it has a lot of peace of mind for little cost. Well made product. Should last for years. Sand is the cheapest weight material, but I found old used steel bolts, nuts, flat stock that was free. Check around any machine shop or steel yard. They often have a real junk pile that they will give a few pieces.

I've had these bags for over a year and am convinced they will last a very long time. When I got them I went to the local hardware store and bought the sand; the sand was wet so I placed it outside in a bucket and as it was drying (toasted) I was filling the bags. Also, used ziplock bags inside as liners. Drying the sand in Texas heat and using a ziplock bag as liner might have helped...not sure. However, I don't have to worry about leaking sand inside or the bags absorving humidity outside and get worse once inside.
If I need more bags, this is the set I will get again.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I haven't had a single problem with these. Fill them with sand at the beach for location shoots, empty them before I go home. Didn't notice any leaking at all. Seem rugged to me, two zippers for each pocket. Will be buying more.
