1880’s ALLEN & GINTER Tobacco FOX HUNTING Card H809 Pet Cigarettes RARE Richmond

This scarce advertising card was issu
ed
by the Allen & Ginter Tobacco Co. of Richmond Virginia, to promote their Richmond Straight Cut and Pet brands of Cigarettes.  Burdick does list this series in his American Card Catalog (ACC) as series H809.  Ccording to Burdick their were two different series featuring Fox Hunting themes one larger and this series which is smaller.  According to the ACC each one had 4 cards in the series.  Unfortunately I can’t find an exact date of issue, but this is an early one more than likely from the mid to late 1880’s as it uses the names Lewis Ginter and John Pope (I have never seen Pope’s name on other A&G cards).    The card measures 5 1/2  inches by 3 and 1/16 inches approximately. The card does have a tiny  piece off the top front left corner, and a very light crease near the “r”  in the word “Cigarettes” at the top edge.  It is not very noticeable  with the naked eye, but can be felt when a finger is run over it, so I mention it for accuracies sake.  That being said  I think It displays very well, hard to believe that it is actually well over 100 years old.   I have provid
