    Description

Very rare and quaint "1880s Trade Card "Two Young Lovers" in Colonial Garb on Valentines Day. As the title says, it shows a very young gentleman on his knees professing his love to an equally young maid. She is playing coy, and both are dressed in colonial style clothing. It is in excellent condition. The lower right-hand corner is slightly creased, and in the upper two corners there is some discolorations. However the other three corners and edges are very strong and sound. The front surface is very clean. But a previous owner used glue to attach this card into a scrapbook, and when it was removed, a small amount of the scrapbook paper came with it. Please see all of the Photos above, to confirm the condition and contents of this listing.

Very rare and quaint "1880s Trade Card "Two Young Lovers" in Colonial Garb on Valentines Day."  The card is approx. 5-1/2" x 3-3/4" (14.2 cm x 9.4 cm.) and is printed on a medium weight, card stock.
As stated in the title it shows a very young gentleman on his knees professing his love to an equally young maid.  She is playing coy, and both are dressed in colonial style clothing.  I guess the "colonial period" was the "old days" to the people in the Victorian era.
This wonderful and original "ca. 1880s glossy Chromolithograph Trade Card"  is in excellent condition.

In the late 1800's it was not unusual for companies to look for a unique way to to advertise their business.  When a business wanted to advertised they would go to a printer and pick a pre-printed blank.  If they wanted to impress their clients, they choose one with full color design.  Then the printer would print the company's information on the front and/or the back of the blank.  These cards were very popular and very collectible in the 19th Century.   This card is one of the blanks, as it has no printing on either the front or back.
A fascinating and quite wonderful "1880s Trade Card showing Two Young Lovers in Colonial Garb on Valentines Day," and fantastic addition to any 19th century advertising collection!!!
