    Description

This rare Tobacco card Premium was issu
    ed
by the KINNEY BROS Tobacco Co. of Baltimore and New York.  It is un-known at this time if this was an insert premium (obviously it would have had to been put in with extra large crates or shipping cartons), or a trade card given away to merchants to display in their stores, or perhaps was a mail away premium from Kinney Bros.   Burdick list the series as H644 in his American Card Catalogue, under the title Period Gowns. Unfortunately Mr. Burdick did not provide a date of issue or how many were in the set.  I have always speculat
    ed
that the date of issue was the early to mid 1890’s.  I have personally seen one of these cards  number
    ed
14 so we know that there where at least 14 issu
    ed
in the series.  I have also seen variations of these cards that have the words  “Issu

by Kinney Bro’s Manufacturers of Special Favors Cigarettes”  quote printed on the front of the card   All of the fronts do feature the Kinney Bros. Signature at the top front left corner, and the Special Favours Brand ad on the top right front corner.  The subject matter of the cards seems to be Ladies Dress or costumes form different era.  The date of the style and the Reigning

    .  The card is print
    ed
    on a fairly ridg
    ed
cardboard stock similar to a Cabinet Card, or Advertising Sign.  This particular card Features a Ladies Costume from 1813.  It is number 8 in the series.
The card measures a 7 ¾ inches by 5 3/4 inches approximately.  The card does have a very tiny edge tear at the back left vertical edge (near the top), it does not go through to the front and is not overy visible with the naked eye. It has a smaller corner bend and some light discoloration to the edges.  Other than that  it is free from major creases and displays nicely.
This is a fantastic cross over collectable.  Highly desir

    Don
't miss out on this over 125  year old piece (a true America antique).     I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.  They don’t come up for sale on the open market very often..
I  will be trying to list several  EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories),
including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States and Circus themes.  To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click  on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page. It will take you directly to them.
I am actually located in Canada just across the border.  I have a U.S.A. mailing address, and I mail my items from the USA to avoid border delays.
Due to my work schedule and distance to the post office I am only able to ship  Monday Mornings
.  If I haven’t received payment for an item the EVENING BEFORE Monday  the item will have to wait until the next Monday  to go out. Its unfortunate but unavoidable.  If this doesn’t work for you I respectfully ask that you do not bid. Thanks again
