Description
Up for auction is this fantastic die-cut stand up paper advertising doll issued by the Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro Vermont U.S.A around the 1890s period. It is from a rare series of dolls that feature a beautifully lithographed image of a young boy or girl representing an occupation of the time. I am unsure of how many where in the series but have personally witnessed 4 different occupations in the 20 years I have been on ebay. The front features advertising for Estey Organs as well as two side flaps that instruct to fold them back to be able to stand the toy up for play. The Back features a poem or limerick about the occupation and Estey Organs. This one also features an ink stamp advertising the Kellers Music House of Easton Pennsylvania who more than likely distributed these dolls. This card features a SHOE SHINE BOY . The doll measures 5 inches by 2 inches approximately when stood up. The doll does have some tape on the back of the neck. That is re-enforcing the neck which has a crease/break The doll does have all of its folding flaps intact (rare as most were torn off from use), featuring strong color and I think displays very well. I have scanned the doll, both front and back, fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. Because of the fact that it was issued as a toy to be played with, and that it is fairly fragile to begin with, not many have survived over the approximately 120 years (a true American Antique).I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories),
including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities and Circus themes. To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page. It will take you directly to them.
I am actually located in Canada just across the border. I have a U.S.A. mailing address, and I mail my items from the USA to avoid border delays.
Due to my work schedule and distance to the post office I am only able to ship Monday Mornings
. If I haven’t received payment for an item the EVENING BEFORE Monday the item will have to wait until the next Monday to go out. Its unfortunate but unavoidable. If this doesn’t work for you I respectfully ask that you do not bid or buy. Thanks again
