PIONEERS IN PAPER - Blake, Moffitt & Towne - The very first paper suppliers of the pacific coast.  They began in 1855 in San Francisco and opened their first Los Angeles warehouse location in 1891.  This stationary paper cabinet, circa 1920's, was from the Blake, Moffitt & Towne Los Angeles second warehouse location at 242 South Los Angeles Street.  Gracian Anthony Iturbury (1888-1966) was born in Los Angeles and was a stock clerk for Blake, Moffitt & Towne at this location.  My grandfather, who owned the Wigwam Village Motel in Rialto, acquired this cabinet from their family in the late 1950's.  It is so rare anymore that you find even paper items from this company.
It measures 17 x 15 x 17 and I believe is made of pine.  Also, to the right of top drawers, there is a vertical slot that looks to have held maybe regular sized paper.  The Blake, Moffitt & Towne Los Angeles metal plaque is pictured on front.  The plaque says:  BLAKE, MOFFITT, AND TOWNE  ESTABLISHED 1855  PAPER DEALERS  LOS ANGELES.    I am also including book: 1955 Deep Roots - History of Blake, Moffitt & Towne pioneers in paper since 1855 (100 year anniversary book dedicated to James K. Moffitt).   Also included found in drawer pictured three 1934, 1935, and 1937 envelopes that were from Blake, Moffitt & Towne in Phoenix, Az.   Their warehouse in Phoenix was opened in 1918.  It was saved from being torn down and is on the National Historic Register.
