    Incredible Antique
    Sample or Engineering Model
    Foundry Casting Machine
This machine was clearly made in a pattern shop and is a mechanical masterpiece. It is constructed almost entirely of high grade wood and looks to demonstrate the process of packing sand into molds during casting at a foundry shop. The center of the model is a large rotating carousel that turns to five different positions that represent different casting processes. One step shows the sand packing press that slides over the casting flask then a bottom press lifts the casting flask up into place and a long guide rod slides in to lock everything into alignment. It then rotates one position where it stays stationary, the next position tilts the flask one direction. The forth position grabs the flask and flips it completely upside down with another press that lifts it up from the bottom. The fifth position tilts the flask to the side again.
This is a very large an intricate model with lots of moving parts. The model is believed to have been made in the 1920s or 30s and it seems that a machine this large and automated would most likely have been built for the automotive industry. The casting pattern resembles an eight cylinder engine block so that could be a major clue to what company this machine was made for. This model came out of an estate in Grand Haven Michigan, very close to several large foundries that made many of the parts for Detroits auto assembly plants. Some research could turn up some very interesting history on this one.  This model is very large measuring 23 inches wide 27 inches tall and 40 inches long. Pick up only or I may be able to deliver this within a reasonable distance from northern Indiana.
    Fantastic Model
