Description

NOTE: the 516F-2 Capacitor kit has been upgraded with tubes to insert the 33 uF capacitors into so they fit tight in the clamps rather than using tie wraps to squeeze the clamps around the smaller capacitors.
This Collins NEW Capacitor Replacement Kit Includes the custom made, dual section Capacitor rated 15/30 MFD @ 450 VDC for C5A and C5B, as well as the other new, modern capacitors you will need to bring your vintage Collins power supply up to Specifications.
Having had many 516F-2 Power Supplies over the years, It has been my observation that the design is sound and reliable. Most have lasted 50 plus years with no problems. Only when the original capacitors get very old, they can fail.
There are several kits and boards out there that require drilling and tapping holes and cutting into the main wire harness, doing irreversible harm, when simply replacing the electrolytic capacitors is all that is needed.
Many think there are brighter and better engineers than the team at Collins, but the proof is in the years of trouble free operation of the 516F-2 power supplies.
Replacing the capacitors is easy, and only takes an hour or so to do. You can replace them one at a time if need be to help keep things straight. Your power supply should provide another 50 years of service and remains in original condition.
Many have recapped their Collins radios with this kit and have found that even though the components they replaced measured within tolerances, there was a great performance improvement which would indicate the older capacitors were leaky.
Why wait till a capacitor fails to replace them? A failure of this type could take out other components which may not be easy to find like power transformers and other hard to find parts.
Each Capacitor kit comes with a data sheet which indicates the schematic designation part number so you can see just where to replace each capacitor.
This kit provide the convenience of not having to order the small individual capacitors, and the opportunity to receive the custom built multi value capacitor can which are not readily available.
