    Description

Trade card advertising Dr C. McLanes celebrated liver pills and vermifuge (a pill that helps remove intestinal worms) from Fleming Bros in Pittsburgh. Illustration on the front shows a well dressed couple standing at the counter as the druggist shows his wares out of an ornate glass case. Text on the top reads: "Lady - have you seen the genuine C. McLane liver pills; Druggist - We have: please observe the signature of C. McLane and Fleming Bros on this box, without which none can be genuine". On the other side of the card a testimonial letter has been reprinted, sent by a man named John Piper in Utica NY. In his letter, John Piper talks about his children's history of worms, beginning which his hunch that, contrary to what the attending doctor said, his child had worms - a belief that is proven correct when he buys Dr. C. McLane's vermifuge pills. He mentions several instances in the past several years where his children became ill, only to be cured when they took McLane's pills. Each time, he mentions the number of worms the children have "passed" as evidence of the pill's success. Published by Flemming Bros. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2"
