    Horse Equipment Brass Buckle Cover Dug Civil War site but not CW, 1.9" x 3".
    These were not invented till the 1890's but have been found in many Civil War sites as this one was. Many have hearts embossed on them. In the 1970's they were called Louisiana Militia Buckles. In reality they fit over iron horse equipment buckles to prevent them from being snagged open and worked quite well.
