Description
LIEBIG MENU CARD FROM SERIES OF 6 TITLED "FOREST AND COUNTRY SCENES" ISSUED IN 1911Offered is a single menu card issued by the Liebig Company. This card is identified by the Sanguinetti Catalog as from series M-72(e) and is in the German language. The card offered pictures "two people conversing over a farmhouse fence".
Liebig menu cards were first issued in 1884 and continued to be offered to restaurant goers through 1911. Menus were clearly designed to be collected, as most contained the words "A Gift to Our Guest". Unlike the regular "chromo" issues which were published in as many as 15 languages, menus are only found in English, French and German. The larger size allowed for more extensive advertising, including some with recipes using the "Extract". Many of the menus have ornate and graphically attractive artwork.
