    paints found at craft stores, walmarts, etc. No special paints required.
    if you use acrylic paints and want to seal these to keep water out, simply use
    a gloss or semi gloss clear sealant spray after the paint dries, usually available where you find acrylic paints
    OR
    you can use ceramic paints and KILN  fire to instructed cone.
