This cemi features an infant human figure protruding out of black stone stone. It features traditional grainy eyes, mouth, as well as linear decorations in arms, hand, legs, navel and head.
Figures like these and in other shapes were often used to induce fertility in women trying to conceive. They were usually given to couples by the local shaman to help them conceive a child.
This piece comes from one of our Taino antique collectors in Puerto Rico.
