Description
For Auction/Sale:One
lightly used commercial HF FSK Exciter designed to produce up to 3 watts on 1 to 7 mHZ in two bands. The shift is linear, adjustable to 1000 hZ using a calibrated dial (presently set, as you can see, for 170 shift). Output impedance 50 - 70 ohms. It accepts up to three FT-243 crystals and up to three HC-6 size crystals. Using a crystal oven, the stability is held to 10 CPS for temperature variation 0 - 50 deg C and similarly for up to 10% voltage variance. The TMC VOX Master Oscillator/VFO or similar is required when doubling the XFK's internal oscillator frequency. As it is, it should tune up on 75 meters. Frequency doubling gives you 40m. At present I have a Mackay Radio version of the VOX unit available if desired but sold separately.
Ample documentation is on the web but we are providing what we have on CD which includes TMC's training course, one of their commercial manuals as well as one of their military manuals (C-2749 URT). If you want to go first class, this will certainly take you there.
Applications are ham radio related today. 3 watts can work QRP mode and you can even apply to the FCC for a special call sign to set up a propagation beacon! The outgoing shift was usually adjusted so that a looped in demodulator set for the desired shift (usually 170 hZ) printed without error. What most people overlook is that the XFK makes a good 3 watt CW exciter. Yes, it will do CW. TMC reports it will key up within 50 cycles of the crystal's cut frequency +/- the "grind" tolerance. Since it can be driven by a VFO, it's an ideal boat-anchor QRP rig.
Unrelated but allied with its FSK ability is that it has a Facsimile mode.
Condition:
Excellent physical condition and I doubt there is much wrong with it. It probably works but because of age, the nature of electrolytics, and the fact that we have no way to test it. it is sold strictly as is. The exterior, as you see, is dusty and we find no damage nor modification to it. Some normal heating deposits near the dropping resistors as you can see in the pictures.
TERMS:
Sold as a vintage collectible that we believe is serviceable and re-deployable in the right hands. It is also sold strictly AS IS and is NOT returnable. Further testing or servicing is the responsibility of the buyer.
Shipping:
Weight is 45 lbs; carton size is 22 x 22 x 17 inches. This will be checked again & corrected if necessary. Buyer pays for the custom heavy duty carton which cost us and that is included in the shipping.
NO SHIPPING TO P.O. BOXES - PHYSICAL ADDRESS & PHONE NUMBER REQUIRED.
