In this section, it is not so much a question of lethal weapons as of demoralizing weapons. Anyone who believes that the ancient wars were distinguished by a huge number of victims is cruelly mistaken. The main task of the army was not to destroy the enemy completely, as many now try to do, but only to break its resistance, collect tribute, steal people into slavery and thereby ensure prosperity for its people. The killed were few, while the wounded - more than three-quarters of the army happened (as the chronicles confirm). Remember how they talked about the victorious army: "it beat those". Not chopped, not pinched, but it was broken! In such battles, the warriors did not shred each other like cabbage, but only led them out of order: they wounded, maimed, deafened. For this purpose, the weapons of this group are ideally suited. Despite the fact that it does not cause bloody wounds, it can stun the enemy, break his bones. Moreover, the armor did not save at all from a skillful stroke of a club or even a club: the soft armor bent under the blows with such blows, allowing the weapon to inflict a severe bruise or fracture on the opponent. It was also possible for the wave to hit the head in the helmet, to stun the enemy or even to split the helmet. So the weapon was quite functional.
And the mace and the mace came from a simple club. However, her simplicity did not stop her from being an excellent weapon. Militia and rebellious people often armed themselves with
club
. . Despite its primitive appearance, the
stick
can inflict huge damage to the enemy until the bone fractures, and if we recall the great strength of our ancestors, there is no doubt that the club in their hands was a truly deadly weapon. The very word "dubin" speaks about what material it was made from. The best stick is obtained from oak (sorry for the pun), or, at worst, from the elm or birch. And the club as a weapon is not just some snag. For a cudgel, the right part of the specified tree species is best suited, and the place where the trunk goes to the roots is the knotty, hardest part in the tree, which was beaten in battle. On the other hand, the stick was skirting for some ease and convenience of holding. Also there was the practice of stuffing nails into such sticks, which further increased the crushing ability of the stick, because the stick with the spikes did not slip and it just hit the target.
