    Description

    Description:
This is a really nice, wood carved advertising item for Lumberjack Stores, a division of The Windsor Locks Lumber Company in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.  The handmade wood carving stands nearly 12 inches in height and is of a happy lumberjack.  The carving was created by professional Vermont wood carver, Duncan Hannah during the 1960s, most likely.  His signature is carved into the base of the statue.  This hand painted lumberjack statue was either a store display or promotional item.  It is beautifully hand painted by Hannah's wife, Marilyn.  The brass store plaque is located on the base and reads, "Lumberjack Stores:  a division of The Windsor Locks Lumber Co."
    Condition:
Excellent condition overall.  There is a 6.99 price printed in ink on the bottom of the statue that's been crossed out.  The brass name plate has some blemishes in the form of tarnish wear.  The statue itself has no issues and is nice and clean, and the paint is in excellent condition, too.
    Size:
The entire statue stands 11-7/8 inches tall.  The base is 3-3/4 inches by 2-3/4 inches and is roughly 1-1/4 inches tall.  The lumberjack, from his feet to the tip top of his hat measures about 10-1/2 inches tall.

Duncan Hannah. Sculptor. Bomosseen, Vermont. (1945-2015)
Active mid to late 20th century.
While he is an American citizen; his place in the Hannah family of artists in Canada must be mentioned here. He was the son of Gerald ‘Pat’ Hannah of Verdun, Montreal, Quebec. His carving was similar to his father’s, uncles’ and aunt’s work. He signed; ‘Duncan Hannah’ or ‘D. Hannah, VT’, ‘Hannah, Vermont’ or ‘Vermont’. Duncan Hannah’s carvings display great charm and skill.
