Jake Paul has his sights set on a busy 2025 in the world of combat sports, with plans to take on Canelo Alvarez and make his MMA debut.
However, before he can focus on those future fights, Paul must first face off against former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson tonight in Texas, in front of an audience of 75,000 fans. The tension between the two fighters is palpable, with Tyson clearly eager for the fight after slapping Paul during their face-off on Thursday night.
Both fighters have promised a brutal knockout, but it’s Paul who has the most at stake in tonight’s fight, given his claims of aiming for a world title. If he manages to defeat Tyson, fans can anticipate that the social media star will immediately challenge Canelo Alvarez for a cruiserweight world title fight.
When asked who he wanted to call out, Paul responded, “It’s Canelo,” He went on to say, “This moment will prove I’m the face of boxing, the largest attraction,” referring to his fight against Tyson. “And me vs. Canelo at 200lb for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight, arguably even bigger than me vs. Tyson, and it makes so much sense.”
Paul continued, “Canelo is on his way out. He’s going to want a payday and I want to show the world all the stuff I’ve been talking about beating Canelo is actually ‘true’ and I’ll have the biggest upset in the history of boxing. We’ll fight to really see who is the face because after this event, I’m going to be claiming it.”
Paul is looking forward to making his debut in the cage after signing with leading MMA promotion PFL in 2022. Peter Murray, the CEO of the organization, anticipates discussing Paul’s first fight in the weeks following his bout with Tyson. “I’m not sure if it’s going to be his very next fight in combat sports but he will debut in 2025,” Murray stated.

“Look what Jake has proved in boxing; he’s an incredible athlete, he’s a pro boxer and he’s taken on some legit opponents and he has blazed his own trail. He’s going to do it the same way in MMA; he’s all about being an advocate for athletes and blazing new trails so he’s absolutely going to take on MMA and be as focused and dedicated as he is to boxing.”
Paul has a record of 10 wins out of his 11 boxing matches, with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury last year. A rematch between Paul and Fury has been anticipated ever since, and it could happen in the cage, especially after Fury spent time training with UFC interim heavyweight world champion Tom Aspinall.
